Browsers being used are Netscape 7,02 and Explorer ver 6, the same thing happens on both browsers. Could this message be coming from a third party programe?

Message, 'The Connection Was Refused When Attempting To Connect [The site i was trying to connect to]' when i attempt to password protected sites. I know the passwords i am using are correct and i can access non password protected sites ok. My OS is XP Home and this problem has only just started happening within the last few weeks after approx nine mpnths of trouble free access. I have not knowingly made any significant changes to my system and have tried all i can think of to solve this problem!

Has anybody any ideas?

Any advice welcome

It may be that you have your security settings too high and the sites cannot place a cookie on your PC. This may stop you from connecting, also a firewall may cause this. j.

try it with xp fire wall off and any other cookie stoping programs you have shut off
