Connection problems

I am having problems trying to stay connected to the Internet. I have scanned my computer and no viruses were found, I have also run spybot and no spyware was found yet still the computer keeps disconnecting when I am downloading a large file.

When it disconnects, the PC still thinks that it is coneected and shows that it is still downloading although it never makes any progress.

I am running Windows 98 on dial up.

Can anyone help?

In addition you can click here to get Fresh Download. It's very effective if you get cut off for any reason, as it picks up from where it left off.
