Connecting wireless laptop to wired LAN

I am a relative beginner with networking and wireless technologies, although I have two desktop PCs which are networked with a crossover cable. I have just bought a laptop with wireless LAN . A salesman in the computer store has told me that I can network the three computers with a USB wireless network card on one of my desktop machines. Is this correct, as I'm not sure if this would work as a three node network. If it would work how I would set it up? Can anyone help?

Currently one machine has Windows 98 SE (this machine has USB) and the other is an ancient(!) Pentium with Windows 95 (no USB). I am considering installing Windows 98 on the second machine.

If you bought a hub/router and 2 ordinary patch cables to connect your two PCs together wou could install a standard wireless access point, which would also plug into the hub. Alternatively, you could purchase a wireless router, which would do the same as the standard hub but with the wireless part built in.

Alternatively, I think you might be able to intall 2 wireless cards in the two PCs as well, making all computers wireless. This is not an ideal solution, but i think it would work. I also realise that all of these solutions would cost a little more than the original ideas, but I recommend you search EBUYER (click here) for w networkig products under the "Catagories" section as their prices are very competitive and their service good.

I assume you have PCI NIC's (Internal Network Interface Cards) in the two PC's to plug the cables into. It would be these yur could replace with wireless versions to work on the Win95 (no USB) PC to make it wireless.

Other than that, bridging the two connections would b ethe only way to do it.

Thanks for these suggestions. At the moment I have disconnected the two desktop machines and installed a wireless USB Network adapter. However despite fiddling with settings I cannot get this to see my laptop.
