I have just had to buy another scanner so I now have 2 usb cables, can I connect them together so I can place the scanner further from the computer?

  Simon_P 22:16 26 Nov 03

will they fit together?

USB can be effected by cable lenth

You may be beter to get a longer cable.

Some scanners will only work properly with the cable supplied.

You can join them with a female A to Female B adaptor.I got mine at Maplins.

  Kegsy 22:25 26 Nov 03

why not just try it, I doubt you would harm the scanner.

Thanks Simon7063, I don't think you can but maybe?

I can keep the scanner close to the computer but I am re-doing the workspace so I thought I would ask to give me another option.

you could keep it off line and just plug it in when you want it, as its USB it will only take a few seconds to be reconised (providing it has been installed)

USB has a limit of about 5 meters.

but

USB2 is considerably more capable although I don't know how far it's good for.

I recommend you to buy a longer cable rather than an extension cable - it's a more reliable solution.

Thanks for your replies wee eddie and DieSse. I will probably keep to one supplied cable but it's good to know you can use a longer cable if you wish to.
