connecting mouse to laptop

Hello, just bought a laptop and wanted to connect the mouse from my desktop but there is no ps2 port on my laptop so i bought an adaptor from maplins, anyway it still wont work, says usb device not recognised, any ideas please

Right, but I believe it does have 4 usb ports, so as already suggested, you should buy a usb mouse, they are not expensive.
