Connecting a laptop to a freeview hd recorder

How can I connect my laptop up to my Durabrand freeview hard drive recorder so that I can copy my recordings onto my laptop and view them when I am on the road. My recorder has a serial 232 connector and I have got a 232 to USB cable but when I connect them up my laptop looks to install the hardware and I haven't got a CD (Durabrand don't supply them)so it fails to install correctly.

my harddisk recorder also has an rs232 port but the manual states that this is not for connecting to a pc but for a service engineer to reset the box.

I bought this about a month ago and it works quite well, So you can just get your PC to record the programs in the first place. This version works with XP only though.

Easiest and cheapest way is to
1. buy a DVD recorder that can record from scart input (Alba £57 from currays)
2. connect scart out on freview recorder to scart in on DVD recorder
3. copy recordings to DVD.
4. take dvds and play on laptop.
