connecting lap top to printer

Have gone to connect my HP 890C printer to my Dell Inspiron 1100 lap top and found there is only a USB port on lap top and a large connector plug and no USB on the printer. Is there any way I can get round this other than a new printer. I had looked at a Targus USB unit which seems to act like a docking station but information says will not support two way communication so do not know if this will work with my printer

I bought a usb to parallel connector a while back at my local computer fair about £10 I think. It allows you to connect a parallel printer to a usb on your computer. This would do the job, perhaps someone knows where still sells these as I haven't seen one for a while.
