Connecting IDE drive to SATA motherboard

Hi, two problems here:

I have a new PC, SATA board. I want to connect an 80Gb IDE drive to the board. I've bought an adaptor. The problem is I don't have enough power connectors in the PC. It has free power connectors but they have the new SATA connectors.

To get it connected at least I've disconnected the power to the floppy and used that power cable but this isn't a long term solution. Anyway, the machine didn't recognise the drive. I connected the SATA cable from the adaptor to one of the free SATA drive ports on the motherboard. Am I missing a step? What should I set the master/slave jumper on the IDE drive to?

Also, how do I get around the lack of a free power cable? The IDE/SATA adaptor requires one of the mini 4 pin connectors, as on the floppy drive.

thanks in advance
JP
