It sounds as though friend has been using a USB ADSL Modem, which would in effect behave like a "dialup" connection in the PC.

When you use a combined "ADSL Modem/Router", it is the *ROUTER* which has to be configured to establish the connection to the ISP (Orange). Computers then connect to the router, either by ethernet cable or "wirelessly" and get their internet access over the LAN (Local Area Network). It may be necessary to uninstall the existing software to avoid a conflict with getting internet access over the LAN. Note that the PC DOES NOT connect to the internet, that is now the Router's function.

Make and model of router?

Connect ethernet cable from router to PC
Connect telephone line via filer to router
Power on router

Enter router admin pages by typing correct address, (will be in the manual for the router hence why asked for make and model) into your browser (IE), enter user name and password for router to gain access to setup pages.

When in setup page
Enter Orange username and password.

When you can connect to the net by wire then set wireless security key WPA PSK in router.

on PC select wireless networks find you router and type in the security key to connect.
