connect printer to wi-fi

  wato 22:29 28 Oct 07

I have a network that works perfectly ok but I have to have my main PC on to access the only printer connected to the network from any networked PC.

The printer is connected to the main PC via a serial port.

How do I connect the printer directly to the router and print without the need to have the main PC on

You need to get hold of a printer server that is compatible for your printer. You can either get an ethernet print server which will plug directly into an ethernet port on the router or you can purchase a wireless print server. You can expect to pay GBP 30 upwards.

For £80 you can buy a network printer. Just connect to your router.

Possibly even cheaper alternatives.

I was not aware that there are printers that will connect to a network directly. My HP printer has served me very well for a good number of years but it must be time to upgrade now. Next stop is the advertised web site. Thanks to you all for your help...
