Is there a way I can connect my laptop running XP to an old PC running XP Pro, to avoid the need to buy a monitor/keyboard/mouse?

Use a crossover cable from one network port to another.
Then use the Network Setup Wizard within The Control panel.

thanks, is there a particular type of crossover cable needed (there are varying price ranges), and does it matter if the laptop and pc have different OS's?
It sounds a simple procedure, am I missing something? :)
