Confusing problem

Hi. I had a problem with Windows failing and the disk stopping as Windows was loading but the power stayed on. I still don't know the cause but have managed to rectify it. However I now have 1. the disk light on the PC permanently on instead of flickering when the disk is working, 2. no power to the DVD drives and they are not recognised, 3. no drives at all are recognised in the BIOS and 4. during boot I get a screen saying something about checking a controller and then something about installing a Linux Raid Partition Driver (I can't print or pause the screen). One other thing I did before the problem was download a bootable ISO image of Ubuntu to my backup drive but I can't quite make the connection. I never installed Ubuntu, just downloaded it.

Like a hardware issue, if you have no power to your optical / and hdd drives.

Could you have suffered a power spike? Could be that your BIOS itself has become corrupt, but if there is really no power to the drives, then either the motherboard, or psu are at fault
