Confused about XP Home and sfc /scannow

I installed some trial software and removed them again. Then I ran as I normally would ccleaner and regseeker. Sygate and AVG are telling system files have changed, user32.dll amongst a host of others.

Will sfc /scannow fix this?

I try and run it and it tells me to insert XP professional SP2 disk. I have XP SP2 Home edition, I insert this disk and it doesn't accept it.

My system, XP Home sp2 all updates, 1 gig ram and athlon xp3200+. Computer seems sluggish too.

there is no sourcepath that I can find.

The user32.dll was updated with yesterday's Windows Updates, in particular KB890859. In total the updates included 23 or so new versions of dll files. The version of that file you should have, assuming you've installed the updates, is 5.1.2600.2622. The previous version of the file was 5.1.2600.2180.

I'm not sure why sfc is asking for the Pro disk.

It will go if you keep clicking it, it's SP2 that is making it look like XP pro

Just use your XP disc and SFC and give it some welly

hi VOG... nice link!!!
i read that ,but it dont say why it asks for the xp professional sp2 disk ,when i am using xp home sp2 ....?????.

  woodchip 20:52 13 Apr 05

As above it doe's it with my XP home, But it gets there in the end....... Have you tried a restore point

OK I found the sourcepath, changed it C:\ as the link suggested. (Thanks to VoG as usual)

It didn't work so I put it back to the way it was "D:\" and it worked, it accepted the disk, strange.

Computer is not sluggish anymore, AVG still shows the changes as does Sygate. Must be the updates from yesterday as bertiecharlie says above. All's fine for now.....

Thanks guys.
