Configure a USB port

This may sound a silly question, but how do i comfigure a USB port as com port 1. Using Vista with no RS232 ports, trying to run a bit of software which states "NO COM 1 AVAILABLE".

You can't, as far as I'm aware, have a USB port as Com 1, 2 etc.

The ports configuration can be found from Device Manager>Ports>list of Devices>highlight a device>right click>Properties>Port Settings tab.

The first paragraph might not apply to serial to USB type devices.

You can reconfigure it - it's a totally different type of port.

You may find your motherboard has a Com port on it - but no cable/backplate attached - worth a look at the motherboard manual - any computer shup probably has loads of these plates.

They normally work fine, but are not 100% with all devices.
