Conecting two wireless networks

I have 2 wireless networks (different buildings) both using netgear DG834g. A wireless laptop can detect both networks although the one is too week to use on the laptop reliably. Should the two routers be able to detect each other (assuming the signal is strong enough)and if so how do I get them to allow my two networks to link up or become one one network? I have tried changing the settings so that both networks use the same settings but still cannot get them to detect each other.
any help would be greatfully received

What about using a wireless access point as a repeater then you should be able to combine both networks into one, I never tried it, but it should work, have a look at this site click here
