Computer won't shut down

  emmybee 00:24 21 Jan 07

For the last couple of days, each time my Medion Titanium 8000 PC shuts down it restarts again. Automatic Shutdown is not on, and the Registry Key "PowerDownAfterShutdown" (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon) is set to 1. OS is Windows XP Home SP2 and fully up to date.

sounds like it could be the power supply unit which may need replacing.could also be a memory prob so try reseating all your cards first.then check your psu with a volt meter if you are handy with one.

I had the same problem this weekend, it turned out to be a virus, if you have AVG make sure it is up to date and run that, if not download AVG and that will sort the problem out.

PSU and memory cards OK (I am an Electrical Engineer). Your tip, beeuuem, only applies to Windows 98. I have Norton Antivirus 2007, and it was run after this problem started and found no viruses.
