Computer won't read home made DVD's

I have a Pioneer dvd (106D model) and if I record a data or movie dvd the computer can't (or won't!)read it yet if I put the same recorded dvd in my laptop it reads it ok. I am using power dvd for the movies and windows explorer for the data dvd's. Both machines are using windows Xp.
Anyone any ideas?
Oh yes, I am using nero 6 as a burner but the same happens if I use easy cd/dvd creator!

Come on chaps! Someone must have an idea about this! As an example I copied all The "My documents" folder (3.4Gb) onto a blank DVD-R disc and now if I put this disc in my laptop OR my sons computer, I can see the contents using windows explorer, but can't see anything if I put it it my computer.
Maybe explorer is corrupted? If so how do you repair it in Win Xp? I know how to do it in '98 but Xp is different...............
