Computer won't detect hard disk! Pls help

I've just finished building my first computer The computer boot's up ok, and there is a "system beep" The problem is I can't get it to detect the hard drive.
It detects the cd-rom ok.

Checking system health
Main processor : AMD TM XP 1300MHZ
memory testk

Detecting IDE drives...
These are blank
Secondary Master: none
Secondary slave: cd-rom

The motherboard is a GA-7VA
The hard disk is

Forgot to add. I have tried the IDE cables that came with the hard disk and the motherboard. But still nothing. I have also checked to make sure all the cables are in the right place.

I have also tried booting the computer up with a Windows boot disk and running Fdisk- but I keep getting this message Error reading fixed disk.

what does it say in the bios about your harddrive,press the delete key as its going though the post.
