my e machines pc is terrible started when i tried to reinstall windows xp,the machine just powered down after about thirty seconds, now there is no powerw at allI've installed a new power supply and tried the processor in another machine which works ok,but still no power.could it be a ram failure ?or should I replace the mother board?

Sounds like a motherboard failure - if the RAM was faulty you'd more than likely get beeps at POST indicating the fault. Have you unplugged every possible device except perhaps the HD and tried it?
