computer slowdown after running AVG update

Hi, don't know if this has appeared before, a Friend of mine has a laptop which runs Windows 2000 or NT not sure which. After updating his AVG virus protection his computer has slowed down a lot. Is it possible to run 'System Restore' to before his update, and would this solve his problem. Any ideas would be welcome.

Before doing a system restore ensure he downloads and runs Spybot click here and Ad-aware click here which will search for any nasties that could be slowing him down. He could download and install SpywareBlaster click here which prevents these nasties ever getting on your system in the first place. They all need to be updated on a regular basis. HTH TR

C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\UPDATE

Go to this folder and delete all updates then run AVG update again.
