Computer repeatedly crashes

AS above and event viewer shows

The driver disabled the write cache on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR4.

Any suggestions? it is only a recent occurence and the only thing i've installed recently is a broadband connection and doom 3.
Running Windows 2000 Pro.

Try Scandisk, on Win2000 I think it's:

Right click My Computer then Manage>Storage>Disk Management, right-click C: then Properties>Tools> Check Now, Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors...

Hi dr_dave2001. I don't really know much about Windows 2000 or the problem you're getting, however after a quick search I think that the message is simply telling you that the motherboard driver has disabled your hard drive cache to prevent data corruption. Perhaps the real problem is caused by a compatibility issue with your graphics driver and Doom 3.

thanks for the help but i just found out from another site that its an incompatibility issue with win 2000 and my external zip 250.
