My computer keeps re-starting

It might be overheating. Try SpeedFan to check the temperatures click here

If an oldish computer check that all of the air vents are free from dust and fluff.
If they are inside will need cleaning out as well.

More info would be nice, saying it just restarts although annoying for you doesn't help with what can be happening, although overheating can be a cause its not always the thing that causes it.Is there any messages or noises that hapen prior to this,is it at specific times or when you use specific programs.

  Nero6 10:21 28 Feb 11

It doesn't happen when I am using the computer, but when I am away from it.

  birdface 11:04 28 Feb 11

Is it your computer that is restarting or just the program that you have been using.

  birdface 11:06 28 Feb 11

If it is the latter go to power options in control panel and set the field to never on all.

Could be automatic updates ?

  Nero6 11:28 28 Feb 11

It is my computer that is restarting.

I did wonder about automatic updates but it seems too regular for that.

  HondaMan 13:31 28 Feb 11

If it's that regular, check if the intervals shorten with time, if so, it may well be temperature related

Depending on your operating system in system properties, startup and recovery. Untick the auto restart button.
