Computer hangs at logon window

I am using a TECRA S1 laptop that is running XP Professional. When I logon the computer hangs for a couple of minutes before downloading my personal settings. If I logon as someone else this problem does not occur. I have created a new profile and the same problem happens and I have tried logging on with a raming profile and a local profile and the same problem occurs. Please can anyone suggest a solution to this problem. Thanks!

Hi, I have the same problem on a machine running XP Home. My problem is , I have so much junk installed over a period of time that I am going to re-instal XP onto a new, clean hard drive. I will be keeping the old drive in the machine, (I have a PCI/IDE card installed which allows me to have up to 6 hard drives). Cheers, Bill
