My Packard Bell Pentium 4, 2.8GHz,bought in february 2003 has been freezing so I have to switch it off, picture format will just change so I have to restart and this has been geting worse over the last few months.Note also that my wife who also got exactly the same type of computer when I did and she is having similar problems.
Below are two of the faults which come up on the screen

1.The system has recovered from a serious error
BCCode : ea BCP1 : 82C8FB30 BCP2 : 82DB2EC0 BCP3 : 82D6FF58
BCP4 : 00000001 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

2.Problem caused by NVIDIA Graphics Driver
This problem was caused by NVIDIA Graphics Driver. This program was created by NVIDIA Corporation. NVIDIA Corporation does not currently have a solution for the problem that you reported.

I have used recovery program on both computers but no improvement.
Do the computers need replacing or what?
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

You need to uninstall your graphics cards drivers and reinstall the latest from the manufacturers website...

Graphics driver update which I have carried out:

I have nvidia graphics driver geforce 4 mx 440 version 6.13.001.2742 date 01/02/2002.
I went onto nvidia site and downloaded (automatic 93.71 whql nov 2 2006 version 6.14.0010.9371)
I then found that screen was going black and then picture would part freeze when I used the mouse and I had no alternative but to use recovery program again as I could not do anything.

What have I done wrong, any help please ?

Have you ever changed the CMOS battery??

  dugit 21:46 08 Apr 08

I don't know what the CMOS battery is?

  STREETWORK 22:00 08 Apr 08

In the mother board inside the Pc is a little battery which looks like a digital watch button battery, this runs out over time and would give you the errors you are getting now...

Restart the machine in Safe Mode, selecting VGA mode, you will get the basic screen on very low resolution.
Load the original graphic drivers in, and that should cure the problem.
