I am running windows 98 second edition with 639.o mb of ram.
When i run scan disk in the standard mode my computer runs the scandisk okay, but if i run scandisk in thorough mode the computer will freeze
and i then have to hit the restart button.
If anybody can help me with this problem i would be truly gratefull thank you.

Try to run Scandisk in Safe mode or under clean boot* conditions.

You can also run a thorough test in MS-dos. Start -> Shut down. Select Restart in MS-dos mode & click OK. At the command prompt C:\ type scandisk, & press Enter. Chose the thorough test.

(*clean boot: Start -> Run. Type Msconfig. On the General tab, select 'Selective startup'. Untick ALL the check marks. Click Apply, OK. Reboot your PC & run Scandisk in thorough mode. After it completes select 'Normal startup' & reboot)
