Computer freezes

  ken2000 17:27 04 Dec 06

Ive recently bought a new laptop, with windows xp etc. however, if I click on My computer, then c:, and then windows, the computer freezes, and comes up with an error screen (windows explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close).

I have tried re-installing windows, without deleteing anything, but to no joy.

Sometimes another box pops up telling me about Dr Watson Post Mortem Debugger not working.

I'm not particularly PC minded, so can someone help?

When I type in sfc /scannow, all that happens was a box appears for a split second, containing some dos stuff and disappears.

Could Registry Mechanic help?

RM may help but first try CCleaner - it is free and has a good registry cleaner click here

I hunted around a bit, and came across this, and tried this bit and it seems to have worked:

By accident, I solved the Dr. Watson error.

Step one - Create a new user in windows xp that is different from your logon. You must have administrator rights.

Step two - Copy and paste ALL of your directories, files, documents etc from your old user account into your new user account.

Step three - test to make sure that you have transferred every over.

Step four - delete your old user account.

Step five - right click on a file that previously activated the virus.

Step six - have a nice day because you will find that the virus is gone.
