Computer does not shut down after power surge

I recently plugged my computer into a faulty power lead and blew a plug fuse. The USB's on the computer had to be reset but the computer does not power down (itstays on the screen saying it is shutting down). Also the power button on the case does not work anymore. Everything else seems to be fine. The system is a 2600+ processor with an ASUS m/board
Any ideas please.

To be safe, you should always connect your PC to the power supply via an anti-surge multi socket. This will protect not only your PC, but any other items that are plugged into the sockets.

In your case it sounds as if the MOB power switch is damaged by the surge.

I'll look at that first then
