computer boots up into recovery console

  tesfred 17:10 20 May 09

when booting up computer, instead of booting up into windows xp, it now comes up with 2 options, 1. windows recovery console, 2. windows xp home edition. I have to use the down arrow key to point at the second option then press enter. How can I return it to boot up into windows xp as it did before? Your help would be extremely welcome.

Go to Start> Run> type msconfig and hit Enter.
In the Boot Tab look to see if they are both shown. If so delete Recovery console.

In Windows, go to the start menu, Right Click on My Computer.

Select the Advanced Tab, then under Startup and Recovery click Settings

Select the correct default operating system (i.e. Windows XP).

You can also manually edt the startup by clicking Edit.

If you help with that then please copy / paste the content of the boot file back here - a wrong edit could cause you some problems!!!!!!

If your system is set-up with a partition for recovery then changing the boot priorities in BIOS may also work for you. Again, if you need help with that then feel free to post back.
