computer boots up with printer set to 'off line'

Each time I boot up my computer the printers are set to 'off line' and I am unable to print anything. The printers will not let me reset them to 'on line' and the only way round this is to spool something and reboot. On rebooting the documents are printed out and all subsequent documents print ok. The computer runs win xp home edition and I have, two printers installed an oki 1400ex [default] and Epsom 850 both set to share on a network. I have tried reinstalling the printers. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to fix this?

not sure.

do you leave the printers turned on all the time?

what happens if you leave them switched off and then turn them on when windows has started?
