Amazon Fire HD 8 review: A brilliant combination of function and value – with one massive caveat
i have a canon i865 which i'm very happy with. when i was looking for cartridges i noticed there were official and compatible versions available. looking for a bargain i chose the cheaper compatibles option. what i want to know is will these cheaper cartridges tell me when my ink is running out and if not will this damage my computer?
thanks in advance,
i personally use inkcycle for my ink recycled cartridges but have not noticed any diffrence in quality and they but more ink in the cartridges as well . you will not always get a true report of ink levels but have not had any damaged printers
your cannon software controls the ink running out in the i865 printer and would be the same whether you have official or compatible versions installled. They are not of the chipped variety which are on most new printers etc so no problem there.
From past experience of using the cheaper compatibles options has proved good for myself and many others, though there are times when heads of the printer (other makes included) may clog up with some.
One big advantage with your model printer is that the head can be replaced very easily on the i865.
Saying that it would not be common to do so due to using other ink brands.
The PRINT head on the i865 is a seperate unit which can be take out and cleaned due to the design and i have done so in the past. Having a removable print head is a big plus in comparison to other models etc.
Have a look at the links to see how your printer fares and also shows the print head. Follow each page by clicking continue at the bottom.worth a read. :)
Other link for good supplier of cartridges.
Have a look at click here good service and ink quality and cheap! ( not refills ) free P&P...........
I would not take out and clean the print head, unless your printer cannot clear problem with deep cleaning in "maintenance"
I use this siteclick here and have never had any problem. I have never bought a branded ink cartridge always bought the compatible ones and never any problems. Good prices and good delivery.

i have used canon originals, staples own make and cartridges from cartridge factory and can see no difference, in fact i have just ordered four sets of ink for my MP360 and it has cost me £10.52 inc postage (price for 1 colour original).
in answer to your question, yes it does tell you when they are running out. try them for yourself and see.
I run the same printer as you, and I use Choicestationery as jim suggests. I have found them good and reliable.
Thank you for taking the trouble to reply. I feel very much more confident and will bear in mind all the advice I've been given.
