Compatibility with laptop card

Hi again, i am about to purchase a Netgear DG834GT router/modem, I would like my laptop to pick up the signal, the wireless card in my laptop is this one: Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection.
My question is, considering the router/modem is 108Mbps, will the laptop card be ok to catch it, considering it is a 54Mbps card ?
I mean, would I need to switch my router/modem to 54 Mbps and hence get a lower signal in my PC that could actually get 108...?
Does that make sense ?
Thanks in advance.

The laptop will simply connect using the standard 54Mbps 802.11g protocol. It shouldn't affect the PC's higher speed connection, although I'm not sure what the PC is actually going to connect to at the higher speed ;-)
