Compatability problems Win XP & old programs

  jacktheripper 20:50 15 Nov 03

Can anybody throw any light on this problem:

I have a timesheet program that was written for Win 3.1 which worked fine until I upgraded to Win XP Pro.
Now when I click on the icon I get the message
GP fault in KRNL386.EXE at 0001:1063 click close to end program.
Then if I click icon again it works perfectly.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Well, I have something similar on Win2k - an old Win3.1 program which starts, throws up an error message saying it will now close, and then continues on fine from once this is okayed! If it is working fine, I would leave it as it is.

Go to the file that your trying to open, (make sure its the actual program, and not a shortcut to it) and right click, then Properties.

Then goto the tab marked Compatibility, then tell it to run in Windows 95 mode.

See if that works, being as Win 95 is as far back as u can go in compatibility.
