I cannot get the mute and sound buttons to work on my Presario v5000 and I do not have a compaq disc. Does anybody know whether I can download a driver for this please?

Thank you smackheadz for the link. I downloaded and installed the appropriate driver but was unable to get the mute button to work. Have I missed something?

Is it a Laptop or Desktop?

The auto detection HP site linked by smackheadz is usually pretty good. You don't state your OS. If Win 7 try a Vista driver. Otherwise check it's an XP driver if that is your OS.
Once downloaded, and installed, the correct drivers then reboot.

Drivers should be on Drive D:\ Have you tried running the HP Help Tools to do a test

If you go to the HP update in Programs it looks for new updates and brings the Help Tool up so you can a check on hardware for problems.

Are you using the fn key along with sound up down keys?

For sound Volume on my HP510 its the fn plus F12 to turn sound up fn and F11 turns it down I think f9 is mute
