Compaq Presario CQ71 Laptop power problems

I usually run my laptop on mains, and shut it down at the end of the day. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that when I shut down that there was still a light flashing as though it was updating. However this kept happening, and then when I switched the laptop on I had a message flash up to say the battery was almost flat. After a lot of experimenting with the battery in and out, I have discovered that the battery is not charging because the mains connection appears to be faulty. I have to fiddle with the position of the mains jack plug to get the computer to switch on - but if I then try and refit the battery the power goes off again.

Is my computer a 'write-off' as it appears that the mains connection is faulty, even though it is less than 2 years old??

Which model no.

There is plenty of info on google for repairing the power jack however it is not an easy job if you are nor proficent and laptop strip and soldering.

I have modified my Toshiba's jack socket to prevent the same thing happening again.

Therefore I suggest you get some quotes for the repair
