Compact Outlook Express!!!

To free up space Outlook Express can compact messages, this may take a few minutes(pop up)
I have 140 gig onboard so I don't the space, but for future reference if I agreed to the compacting of said messages, would I have to unzip them to read, or are they archived in some far off distant folder waiting for Longhorn to uncover.
Please advise in 4 years of computing I have never had this pop up before.
All help gratefully received

I get this pop-up regularly and always agree to it.

Your files are not zipped or otherwise archived, they are merely 'compacted' by Windows.

It does NOT alter the way you use OE or access you files in any way.

It's a HD space safer - nothing more, nothing less.
