After I view all my lovely spam and email, i get asked if I want to compact all my messages, is this safe or a bad thing to do?

Hopefully you lot know far more than I do about 'compacting'.

Many thanks

Yes, it is a good thing to do. Outlook Express messages are stored in a database. When you delete a message it isn't actually deleted, just shown as deleted. Compacting will actually delete the 'deleted' messages.

I keep my deleted messages. I find I still look for things I have deleted - attachments, etc.
