Compac Presario Won't boot

I was recently given a compac presario by a friend who got themselves a new laptop and didn't want the pc anymore.
When I first turned it on I had no problems.
I installed a new pioneer 20x dvd burner(SATA) and the pc refused to boot.
I removed the new burner, and still it won't boot.
It get's to the compac boot screen (black screen with compaq in big red letters and F1=setup F10=recovery console in the bottom right corner) and that's where it stays.
Pressing F1 or F10 does nothing.

Any advice would be appreciated.

thanks

try resetting the BIOS with the claer jumper setting or by removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes.
