Command Prompt window appears briefly at boot-up. Why?

I run Windows 8.1 which I have set to boot direct to the desktop.

Recently, whenever I boot up the laptop, after the desktop has appeared I get a Command Prompt window (empty - no DOS prompt) that appears for about 10 seconds overlaid on the desktop. It then disappears again, and everything seems to behave normally.

Does anyone have any explanation for this, please? Should I be worried about it?

Take a look HERE It is for Windows 7 but if not the same for Win 8.1 should give you some idea

Many thanks for that suggestion, northumbria61. I'll check out the list of startup items and see what I can find.

Well, there's nothing in my Startup list that runs cmd.exe. So my next move will be to run CCleaner, and see whether that clears it.

I may have to leave this until tomorrow, while I finish painting the kitchen (or risk divorce)!
