A friend was just messing with my com and the end result is not good.

I have a Gateway GM5407E
Intel 2.8 Dual Core
Windows Vista Home Premium
1 gig of ram that came with it

He went in the bios and change the memory cofig
It was 4-4-4-12 and he put it to 5-5-5-12 and now system will not boot, I cant even get far enough to get back into the bios. When you turn the com on it just sits there and beeps and my monitor never comes on. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Have you tried Safe Mode ... keep pressing F8 on startup.

were you having a problem with the computer before this event? what prompted the 'friend' to apparently need to mess about IN the computer settings?

  matt210222 14:27 24 Dec 07

I have not tried safe mode yet but I will now.
My com was having no problems before, I am not a computer guru myself so I didnt realize it was going to have a direct effect to it not booting or running properly myself.

It will not start in safe mode.
As soon as i press the power button you can count to like 5 and it starts beeping. The monitor doesnt even recieve a signal and come on. Please someone help if possible.

Can you tell us How Many beeps?

  matt210222 15:01 24 Dec 07

It beeps 3 times to be exact

  matt210222 15:03 24 Dec 07

All my fans are running continuesly after the beeps but that is it.

Yes, that indicates RAM failure - perhaps if you remove RAM and then replace it again, but that is only a guess!

Tries it, also tried remving it and putting it into the other 2 slots and that did not work either. I am at a lose for sure.

If no access to bios;

You may need to reset the bios, you may have to open the case and clear the cmos ,this will restore to default bios settings.

I doubt reseating the ram will change the configuration, though of course i maybe wrong.
