COM Ports

I have a scanner that I am trying to connect to my computer to download some information. I have been unsuccessful using the RS-232 9 pin cord that came with the scanner, and also cannot hook uo the my USB ports. Every time I try I get the same message. "Communication error". So either way, serial, or USB, I receive same message. All the baud rates are set to the same speed. All the scanner info is set correctly. I can see in the software program which Com-ports are available for use, but I cannot communicate for some reason.

Which operating system are you using? I have had strange problems in the past using HP Scanners on Win98SE.

Is the scanner being shown in My Computer Device Manager?
