Coflict twixt CD and DVD writer?

  Severn Bore 21:56 24 Nov 04

I have just installed a DVD writer in addition to a CD Rom in a Win 98 SE computer. The DVD and CD Rom are on the same cable with the CD Rom as Slave to the DVD as Master. The DVD is designated "D" drive and the CD Rom "E".
However, for some reason the CD Rom light flashes and the drawer opens when I insert the a disk into the DVD Writer. The DVD Writer operates normally while this is going on. I have rechecked everything, including th Hardware Manager in the System settings folder in Control Panel and can find nothing wrong.
Any ideas please?

Are you sure that the jumper settings are correct?

Hi, not a good idea to put two cd roms on same ide cable, better to make each a 'slave' to other item such as hdd, or one on it's own, the other as 'slave' to hdd.

Check in Device Manager for conflicts. Your configuration is correct.
