Cmos Trouble

  belcanto 19:11 21 Jan 08

Hi there-I have a 2nd hand PC that I would like to give to a freind of mine. However when i was checking it over I found that it froze for no reason and then when I tried to re-start there was nothing on the screen.

I took off the Cmos posts for some seconds. On restarting I find that apart from breifly showing the startup screen, it always defaults back to the bios screen. Can anyone help, the PC is an emachine, Intel celeron, 1.4mhz, 512mb, 20gb hd with onboard grapghics. Mobo is a packard bell I think.

I hope that someone can help-Belcanto

Firstly I would try a different keyboard, you might have a sticky/faulty key contact on that one.

I took off the Cmos posts?

Not sure what you mean by this

to clear CMOS
switch off, put cmos clear jumper across correct pins for a few seconds remove jumper and replace on original pins.
or remove battery for a few minutes.
