Closing Windows XP

I don't seem to be able to close down Windows. I get a message:
End Program - TRd:C:\WINDOWS\system32\ru...
If I click on End Now, the program seems to be closing but the above message keeps on coming back. I can reboot simply by using the reset button on the PC but this isn't an ideal approach. Any ideas?

Try a system file scan, go to Start/Run/type sfc /scannow (Watch the space between sfc and /) hit enter. You will need your XP CD

Have you tried System Restore? (With XP)

What is the program that is using this file?

Most things in the system32 folder are windows apps, but you can get some nasty things pretending to be legit in there too, have you run a spyware/virus scan?.

Acolyte, not sure...but I have run spyware/virus scans recently with no resolution of the problem
