Can anyone tell me what is the correct way to close problems in XP when installing new programmes?
If I bring up task manager then I have no tasks running but plenty of processes. I am worried about closing them as I usually get a warning message and I don't know which to close if that is what you are supposed to do.

Just close any running programmes like anti virus/firewalls or monitoring like MBM.or open windows.Dont bother with any services that are running.

Do you mean to close programs BEFORE installing software? If so, just close programs like Word, Explorer etc and leave the processes running. They are the background tasks and if you stop them you might make the PC unstable.
