Recently decided to tidy my hard drive by erasing all .tmp files, and defrag hard drive.
Now when I try to close down or restart windows, the machine stops responding before it finishes closing down. No hard drive ativity, no keyboard responce, nothing. Any Ideas

You might of deleted some system files. If you have the XP disk then bang it in and from start go to run and type sfc /scannow

This will replace any missing files. If you don't have the disk then have a crack at system restore.
