Therewas a letter from someone in this months mag about, after XP SP2 had been installed his windows folder was huge and asking what he could and couldn't delete.

There was quite a comprehensive answer. Unfortunately I left my magazine in my hotel on holiday. Could somebody who has the mag please post the PC Advisore response please.

Thanks in anticipation

In windows folder there may be a set of file starting with $ these arae ininstall points createedwhen updates have been installed . If your PC is workiing correctly since the updte was installe you can delete all of these.

then all files starting with $ check date could always leave the most recent for a while longer
also empty your prefetch folder as that can grow quite big while you're at it
