I would like to give my HDD a full clean from scratch. I run Windows XP Home. Do I need to physically remove the old Maxtor 80GB and replace it with a new one to have a clean HDD, or will doing re-inserting my Win XP disc have the same effect?

Bit difficult to do at first if its something new but close this Thread and Ask How do you FDISK & Format the HDD to reinstall a Fresh WinXP Home.

Make a note of your Drivers before you proceed.

You certainly don't need to buy a new one.

........but I should have added that a 2nd hard drive is always a useful investment. I suggest that you follow Bobbins advice.
