Clean install of Windows XP not working

Ok in short this is what happened:

Old system died. Upgraded new motherboard, new processor, new video card. Started up computer Windows XP wouldn't load, repaired it, and it will start, however its buggy, and I have no sound so there are issues. Ok. So bought new hard drive, slaved my old one, and tried to reinstall windows xp. First during installation it said it couldn't find two files. Then when it did start up I could not activate it, when I clicked on the notice to activate windows nothing happened, when I tried to manually enter the activation command nothing happened. There wasn't even an internet explorer installed.

Any ideas?

you need to start again and install windows from the beginning on a clean disk

Yeah, new drive is master, completly clean. Formatted and install of Win XP didn't work correctly.
