Clean format on 2nd drive without installing O/S

I have a second hard drive (37Gb)which contains Windows NT and some other files. Neither the O/S or the data is important to me, I simply wish to erase everything on the drive and prepare it for use as additional storage capacity. My first hard drive contains Windows XP Pro (17Gb) which I intend to retain purely for the O/S and associated program files. What do I need to do to prepare the second drive? Thanks.

If it already in the XP machine as a slave. Right click it in my computer and pick format.

If it is not in the XP machine, set the jumpers to slave and connect it up. Then do the above.
