Choosing Suitable Mobo

I have been gifted an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 retail cpu from a friend who has upgraded to an Intel i7 965 - but the motherboard in my 2 year old self built desktop computer is not compatible.

I wish to purchase a new mobo and RAM to run Windows 7 Home Premium. I am attracted to the ASUS P5QL-E which has an eSATA socket for my external hard drive (used for Acronis back ups.

Are there any other mobo's I should be considering to get the most "bang for my buck" - they must have on board audio, 4 SATA connectors for internal drives, plus rear mounted eSATA, USB2 and network sockets. Firewire sockets not necessary.

Also - what RAM should I go for to get the most out of the upgraded system.

the motherboard as an i7 won't work in his old one?

What's your budget? You've been looking at the P5QL-E (£65ish retail), is that about your max?

Afraid not - he has already used it on another rig he has built for a friend who wanted a Q9650 and crossfire video.

I am not into gaming and do not need crossfire or DDR3 RAM.

I have a boxed brand new Gigabyte 965-pDs3

Also Quad ready. Yellow envelope..

Budget wise - I would like a new mobo and 4GB of RAM for perhaps £150 max. If it needs to be a bit higher - so be it.

I think you will find that your board does not support my cpu according to my understanding of the Gigabyte website.

It only supports older quad cores on a 65 nm silicon - mine is 45nm
